Acrobat - Cannot Open Adobe Acrobat PDF Files

Problem: 

When attempting to open an Adobe Acrobat file from Microsoft Office the user receives the message Windows cannot open this file.

Solution: 
  1. Verify that the file type the user is attempting to open ends with .pdf
  2. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/remove programs and verify that Adobe Reader is installed.
    • If not installed, it needs to be installed by visiting:

      Get Adobe Reader
       

  3. If it is installed you should Select the program from a list


     

  4. Next select the program type Adobe reader under Recommended Programs.


     

  5. Select Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
  6. Select OK

At this point, the PDF document should now open.
