Problem:

You want to use a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 machine to act as a Netdump server for your Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 systems.

Solution:

The netdump-server package is not shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. Netdump has been replaced by Kdump (see How do I configure kexec/kdump on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5? for information on configuring Kdump).

If you need to continue using Netdump with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 to support older clients, there are two options:

  1. Set up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Virtual Guest on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 machine and configure it as netdump server.

  2. Install the Netdump packages from the EPEL program on your Enterprise Linux 5 machine. See How do I use Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL)? for information about EPEL and how to use it.
