How do I export Outlook Contacts to a CSV File

Posted 04/08/2009 - 15:05 by David Schnardthorst

Solution:

To save your contacts from Outlook to a CSV file:

  • Select File -> Import and Export... from the menu.
  • Make sure Export to a file is highlighted.
  • Click Next >.
  • Now make sure Comma Separated Values (Windows) is selected.
  • Click Next > again.
  • Highlight the Contacts folder.
  • Click Next >.
  • Use the Browse... button to specify a location and file name for the exported contacts. Something like "Outlook.csv"  on your Desktop should work fine.
  • Click Next > (once more).
  • Now click Finish.

You can now import your Outlook contacts into other email programs such as Mac OS X Mail, for example.

How do I backup my Microsoft Outlook PST Files?

Posted 03/31/2009 - 06:18 by Webmaster

Problem:

How do I backup my Microsoft Outlook PST Files?

Solution:
The Personal Folder file (.pst / PST) is the place where Outlook stores its data. You need to backup this file. You can find the location of this file by:
  1.
  2. Right-clicking on the Outlook Today icon
  3. Once the Properties dialog box is displayed, click the "Advanced" button.
  4. The "Path...", shown below by the red arrow, indicates where your Personal Folder file can be found.
  5. Write this path down and navigate to that folder.
  6. Copy the file probably named "outlook.pst" to your thumb drive.
As an alternative, you can try to export the data using the tools under the file menu of Outlook.
